Please help me! Dog allergy problem.?
Im petsitting a dog right now.... and before the lady left she said the dog was allergic to wheat....to what degree is unknown. Im freaking out right now because i had 2 whole wheat english muffins in the middle of the counter buried under clothes and packaging in the kitchen and the dog somehow dug into it in the 5 minutes I was upstairs. She ripped through the packaging and inhaled both. Can she die from this???? I know shes not deathly allergic,.. but what signs should i watch for... is there anyway to reverse this?!?! Please help me.
Just watch for signs of itching or breathing problems.
Most dogs who are "allergic to wheat" just get a little itchy or have upset stomachs. For instance, I don't feed my dog grains because she gets a little itchy. So, to keep a pet sitter from giving her grains, I might say she "is allergic," but she wouldn't die or anything.
You say she isn't deathly...she might just scratch at her nose.
Watch her belly or any area with less hair to see if you see hives (red bumps).
If she gets hives, you can give her 1 mg of benadryl per pound. (This is per my vet--my dog has grass allergies...doxie...gets hives on her belly if she plays outside in the grass a lot...poor, short baby).
I'm sure she'll be fine, though. Don't spaz. My guess is she'll be a tiny bit itchy.
Is it a big dog? What breed are we talking about?
OMG...DON'T INDUCE VOMITTING. You say that she is not deahtly allergic. She would get hives/itchy before becoming anaphalactic. So, watch for hives, and if she gets them, give 1mg/lb. of benadryl.
